Mpheni Defenders are the 2026 Limpopo ABC Motsepe League provincial champions.
The Elim-based club beat Ngwaabe City Motors 1 – 0 in the provincial playoff final at Seshego Stadium on Saturday, 16 May 2026.
A second-half header from ‘Fistos’ in the 75th minute separated the two sides. The goal came from a cross by substitute ‘Gito’.

Mpheni dominated Stream A throughout the season, winning 14, drawing 6 and losing 2 to finish on 48 points, five points clear of second-placed Tzaneen United.
Ngwaabe won Stream B with 42 points from 12 wins, 6 draws and 4 losses. They could have finished with more points, but SAFA Limpopo found them guilty of substituting all their underage players in the first half during their fixture against Ramatlaohle United.
The provincial decider is a direct contest between the Stream A and Stream B log leaders, with the winner progressing to the National Playoffs to compete for promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Mpheni created more than five chances in the first half but could not find the net. ‘Rhugga’ had two clear opportunities against the goalkeeper and failed to convert both.
The score was 0 – 0 at half-time.
Mpheni made three substitutions at the break, withdrawing ‘Rhugga’, Blessing Makhubele and former Orlando Pirates midfielder Meshack Maphangule. ‘General’, ‘Gitto’ and ‘Shoes’ came on. ‘General’ stabilised Mpheni’s possession game and the team looked more controlled in the second half.
Ngwaabe had a chance to equalise late in the game but Mpheni’s goalkeeper made a double save to preserve the lead.

Mpheni collected R100 000 in prize money. Ngwaabe received R60 000 as runners-up.
Mpheni now advance to the National Playoffs. They have reached this level before but are yet to earn promotion to the National First Division.
